Nikon acquires Red a company that make cameras for film making and professional use.

Nikon, the popular giant name among top camera companies of the world has announced that it is buying the Red, the name behind creating some groundbreaking cameras out there. With this move Red will be under Nikon's wing. RED cameras have been used in numerous high profile productions, including Marvel films like "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and "Captain Marvel," nature documentaries like "Planet Earth II," and popular TV shows like "Squid Game," "Mindhunter," "Peaky Blinders," and "The Queen's Gambit."

With the agreement Nikon acquires 100% of the entire membership interests of Red.com, LLC (RED) whereby RED will become wholly owned subsidy of NIKON.

Why did Nikon buy Red?

Nikon has best in class product manufacturing technology and a huge market share in consumer centric cameras whereas the RED has developed some groundbreaking technology for cinematic shoots and has captured the premium professional Camera market well enough.

With this move Nikon will be able to capture the digital premium camera market with the help of RED's goodwill and amazing image compression and colour science technology.

“Nikon will leverage this acquisition to expand the fast-growing professional digital cinema camera market, building on both companies' business foundations and networks, promising an exciting future of product development that will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in film and video production,” Nikon blog read.
